5 Product Packaging Tips For Your Etsy Shop

by

Let’s talk about product packaging and why it’s important to make sure your product is beautifully packaged.

First, it’s another important step to impressing your customer and hopefully creating a repeat buyer. I know from personal experience when I receive an item from a fellow Etsy shop owner and the packaging is pretty – it makes me that much more excited about getting a new item! Furthermore, I’m impressed that they spent that extra time and money to make their packaging just a little more special. I also tend to think the item is higher quality before even opening the package. (which ends up being true 9 times out of 10) Do you know what else that makes me think? “What else can I buy from this person for my mom, aunts, friends..? This packaging already looks like a beautifully wrapped gift ready to go!” That’s when the shop owner’s extra mile pays off even more.

Tip #1: Simple, but pretty.

Depending on what you sell, you can go the more simple route but still make the packaging stand out with something a little extra. Check out Tamar’s packaging for her earrings she sells. She has the earrings mounted on the usual white card, but she went a step futher and added gold glitter for that extra sparkle. She then ships them in a simple gift box but adds her logo and a bow to tie the packaging together. Simple but looks so pretty!

Tip 2: Take it a step further and create personalized packaging.

If you sell gift sets or any gifts in general, this is something you can add that makes the person receiving the item feel extra special. IndieSoapsCo has the perfect example of a beautifully packaged spa gift set. You can customize the name on the box as well as the message on the inside. Each item also has their own label with the name of what it is and the shop’s name. Beautiful!

Tip 3: Include care instructions or installation instructions if needed.

This is important info you need to include if needed. You don’t want your customers to accidently ruin your hard work because you didn’t include proper instructions. For example, Ronda from CuriousPurplePig makes hand crocheted items. (Cool name btw ) She includes a tag with care instructions for her washcloths + her logo. Looks pretty and is helpful info for her customers.

Tip #4: Include the invoice.

You want to include the invoice that Etsy provides, unless it’s a gift being sent directly to the recipient. The invoice tells them exactly what they ordered and your shop’s info so they can contact you with any questions.

It also helps them remember which shop they bought what from as some people buy many different things from different shops at the same time. Plus, having the invoice printed out will help you keep each order organized as you complete and package each one. So including an invoice helps everyone!

Tip #5: Include a thank you note + coupon.

One thing we’ve done with our Etsy shop is include a thank you card with a message that thanks them for their purchase, to let us know if they have any issues with their decal, letting them know we also threw in an extra gift for choosing our shop and offering a coupon for their next purchase. We also include our email address + phone number so they can contact us many different ways. You want to make sure you are accessible if needed.
