Free Guide To Making Money With Affiliate Marketing In 2021 For Beginners

I’ve been meaning to write an affiliate marketing article for beginners, what it feels like, forever but there’s always something in the way.

But today!

I finally made it.

I finally sat down to finish it!

So, if you are interested in affiliate marketing and want to start making money with affiliate marketing, this post is perfect for you.

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a commission, at no extra cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link. Please see my full disclosure for further information.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Let’s start with the basics of affiliate marketing.

What exactly is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a process in which you promote products and services from brands you do not own and receive a commission from sales or customers who sign up for the service.

How does affiliate marketing work?

When you write about the value of that product or service and share an affiliate link on your blog or social media, when someone clicks on that link and buys something, then you earn commission.

And everyone is happy!

The company that owns the product is happy that you made them money, you are happy to earn a commission, and your readers are happy that you introduced them to a product or service that solved their problem.

Think about it, how many times have you recommended your favorite product to someone in the past? Whether it’s by any means good word in a blog post or sharing on social media.

So why don’t you make some money from it?

That’s where affiliate marketing comes in and earns some commissions.

You’ll be recommending that product (and service) anyway, so why not monetize it just by sharing how you feel about that product or service?

To get started with affiliate marketing, I always recommend starting a blog for people who are new to the world of online marketing. I personally started making money with affiliate marketing as a beginner using this method.

Not only is starting a blog very inexpensive (it only costs less than $3 a month), but it is a very effective way for beginners to learn how to make money online using affiliate marketing. By starting a blog, you can promote affiliate offers when you write a review or mention the products you use on your blog.

Readers will only purchase or try something if they are educated more about what that product or service is. No one is going to randomly click on a link and make a purchase if they have no idea what the offer is.

If you don’t have a blog yet, I highly recommend reading my tutorial post that will teach you step-by-step on how to start a blog for beginners with no experience.

Once I started my blog, I learned how to create content for my readers and applied some affiliate marketing strategies onto my blog posts.

Because most of my blog is about saving money and making money, I only mention products and services that are related to this topic. For example, I like to promote budgeting resources to help my readers manage their money better. When it comes to earning extra income, I like to promote online jobs and business tools that will help people make money from home.

Depending on your niche, you can promote pretty anything as long as they are products and services you use and believe in that is related to what you blog about. Never will you see my blog promote high-end furniture or home décor products from Wayfair because that wouldn’t align with what my readers want!

I know you’re wondering, how much money can you make with affiliate marketing? My readers love asking me this question, and I always say it depends on how well you implement your affiliate marketing strategies.

There are affiliate marketers who make close to $0 (because they are not implementing the right strategies) and there are those who are able to earn $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, or even $50,000 per month!

Personally, when I first learned about affiliate marketing a few years ago and started as a beginner, I earned a big fat $0 and that’s because I had no clue what the heck I was doing!

As a brand new blogger at that time, I kept hearing the term “affiliate marketing” and every successful affiliate marketer I encountered was earning thousands of dollars a month. They all made it look so easy and that’s when I started inserting affiliate links onto my blog posts but realized it wasn’t working at all. You may think it’s as simple as slapping or sprinkling affiliate links into your posts, but that’s not the way to go!

It wasn’t until I invested in this one affiliate marketing e-course for beginners that I immediately made my first $300 within that month of using affiliate marketing. This first income I earned with affiliate marketing was the turning point for this blog and that’s when the number quickly grew to $500, $3,000, and $5,000 in monthly earnings within the first year of following the strategies from the course.

I was able to make over $40,000 in affiliate earnings within my first year of taking this affiliate marketing course! It was definitely worth the investment since I earned more than 150X on what I spent on the course (that’s over 16,500% return)!

Of course, I have to factor other things like investing my time to learn and implement the strategies, but despite the time I spent testing and tweaking things around, it was still money well spent for a beginner like myself!

Here is my blog income progress as a total newbie when I started using these affiliate marketing strategies on my blog. As time progressed, I learned and tested various strategies to help grow my affiliate earnings.

How to get started with affiliate marketing for beginners?

Now that you know what affiliate marketing is and how it works, you’re probably wondering, how do you get started with it?

I will guide you step by step!

1. Find products to promote

The first step when getting started with affiliate marketing is to find good products and services that can solve problems for your readers to promote.

Good products to promote are really quality products and can help readers solve their problems.

You will take a step back and think NOT about the product but about your readers.

Before you start thinking about what products to promote, you need to think about your audience.

Who are your readers? What are their hobbies? What is their biggest problem? How can you help solve their problem?

The more you know about your readers, the more they will trust you and buy through your link.

Once you know the answers to those questions, you can start thinking about products they’ll be interested in.

You want to promote products that are relevant to them, helping them solve their problems.

2 . Join affiliate programs.

Once you’ve got some products in mind ready to recommend to your readers, it’s time to find their affiliate programs and join them.

To find out if a company or service has an affiliate program, you can enter Google’s “product name affiliate program” or visit their website and look in the footer if relevant. link for an affiliate program.

Some companies or services have their own programs that you can join through their websites while others are part of an affiliate network.

What is an affiliate network?

An affiliate network acts as an intermediary between publishers (affiliates) and merchant affiliate programs. It allows website publishers to more easily find and participate in affiliate programs which are suitable for their website (and thus generate income from those programs), and allows websites offering affiliate programs (typically online merchants) to reach a larger merchant audience by promoting their affiliate programs to all of the publishers participate in the affiliate network.

One great thing about affiliate networks is that they work with a lot of different brands that have affiliate programs where you can find products that are relevant to your audience. You can join and promote these products through the affiliate network.

When you join an affiliate network, you can access the affiliate programs of all the brands that they have in their network. Some companies need to review your website before you can promote their brand.

The best networks and affiliate programs for beginners.

There are many different networks and affiliate programs that you can join (check out this overall list of over 500 different programs) but I will share some of the best ones and affiliate networks for beginners. They are

Tips for getting accepted into affiliate programs and networks

  • You need a privacy policy on your blog (this is a MUST, the law requires you to have a privacy policy on your blog and most affiliate programs won’t accept you if you don’t).
  • Having a self-hosted blog makes it easier to get accepted.

  • Have some content on your blog.

Legal Requirements For Affiliate Marketing

Before you can start using your affiliate links and making money you need to know about the legal side of affiliate marketing.

You Must Disclose Every Affiliate Links

First things first, you need to disclose EVERY affiliate link.

Whether you’re sharing affiliate links on social media, your blog (I’ll talk more about this one in a sec) or in emails, you need to disclose them!

You can easily do that by putting #ad or #affiliate in your description on social media, for emails you can put an affiliate disclaimer in the bottom of your emails where you say that the email contains affiliate links and if they click on them you will earn a commission.

Affiliate Marketing On Blogs

When it comes to affiliate marketing on blogs things are a bit more complex and require more work.

First, you need to have an affiliate disclosurestatement in every post and page that has affiliate links.

Your affiliate disclosure must come BEFORE any affiliate links and must be clear.

I wouldn’t recommend putting your affiliate disclosure at the very beginning of the post because the beginning is very important for SEO. Google often pulls the first few lines of a post in search results.

I personally like to put mine under the first photo.

Speaking of your affiliate disclosure, DON’T use a plugin for that.

Plugins just slow down your website so it’s best to avid them whenever you can.

If you use the Gutenberg editor on WordPress you can create a reusable block with your affiliate disclosure so you can easily add it to every post.

To make it, go into any post and type in your affiliate disclosure in a new block > click on the three dots on top > add to reusable blocks > name your block and click save.

If you use the classic editor or you’re not on WordPress you can have your affiliate disclosure in Word or Google docs and then just copy and paste it into every post.

Besides having an affiliate disclosure it’s a good idea to also have an affiliate disclosure page on your blog.

And lastly, you need to make every affiliate link no follow.

In the past, all paid links had to be marked as no follow but recently Google said that all paid links should be marked as sponsored instead of no follow.

To make your link no follow (aka sponsored) in Gutenberg click on the block where you have an affiliate link > click on the three dots > and click edit as html.

Then add the word sponsored between rel=” ” (it doesn’t matter if you add it before or after noreferrer and noopener, just make sure it’s between the two ” “

Where You Can Promote Affiliate Links

You can promote affiliate links almost anywhere on the Internet.

But here are just a few of the most popular places.

1. On Your Blog

There are so many different way you can make money blogging but affiliate marketing is my favorite one.

What I love the most about it is that you don’t need hundreds of thousands of page views to be able to earn money.

If you have a good strategy and promote the right products you can make a lot of money with little traffic.

Posts that work best for promoting affiliate products are:

  • reviews
  • tutorials
  • comparisons

2. YouTube

The next place where you can promote your affiliate links is Youtube.

When you mention products in your YouTube videos add links in your description box. You can also have some link in the description of every video (for instance if you often get questions about the equipment you use just add links to every video or have a recommended products list in your video descriptions, etc.)

3. Social Media

You can also promote your links on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

The most popular one is Instagram. If you have the swipe up feature (you need 10k followers to have it) you can share links to affiliate products.

Your bio is the only place where you can put a clickable link on Instagram. That’s why you can use a free tool like to create a landing page for Instagram. On that page, you can add links to lots of different affiliate products

4. Email List

Another great way to make money with affiliate marketing is through your email list.

Email marketing is a very powerful thing and you can earn a lot of money with it.

So if you haven’t started your email list yet, now is the perfect time to do it!

5. Pinterest

Yes, it’s also possible to make money on Pinterest.

You can create pins for your affiliate products and add direct links. So when someone clicks on your pin they will be taken to that product.

For making money with affiliate marketing on Pinterest I would highly recommend checking out Get Paid To Pin.

It’s a very affordable ebook that will teach you everything you need to know about sharing affiliate links on Pinterest.

You can use my coupon code TFB20 to get 20% off your order and get the ebook for only $20!

Tips For Successful Affiliate Marketing On Your Blog

I want to talk about affiliate marketing on the blog a bit more.

As I think that’s the best way to do it and you can make the most money with it.

So here are some tips for making affiliate sales with your blog

  • make your links stand out by making them a different color than the rest of the text (blue is the best)
  • also, make your links bold and underline them (to underline words just go with your mouse of the words you want to underline and click ctr + u)
  • don’t just add links to random words, instead, be intentional and actually tell people that they can go to a product by clicking- how are they supposed to know where to click if you don’t tell them?
  • don’t go overboard with the links, space them out
  • the only link to relevant products in a post
  • only promote products you believe in and use (or would use)
  • speaking of using products, in your posts show and tell how you use products-show before and after picture (if you can)
  • in tutorials, take pictures (or screenshots if it’s a digital product) of you actually using that product and show the process
  • tell your readers WHY they need the product you are promoting- what’s in it for them? what will they get with buying that product? (maybe it will solve their problem or save time, etc. Whatever it is tell them that! )

Can You Really Make Money From Affiliate Marketing In 2021?

Now that you know everything what affiliate marketing is and all the ways you can make money, you’re probably wondering…

Can I actually make money that way?

And the answer is 10000% YES.

People are constantly buying and recommending products.

We live in a world that’s obsessed with buying and trying new things. (I won’t go into whether that’s a good or a bad thing…)

We (as humans) constantly want more, we want something new and better.

And it’s hard (maybe even impossible) to fight against that.

And that’s what makes affiliate marketing so successful.

The fact that people are that way.

Even if there wasn’t for affiliate marketing people would still buy and “need” new things. They would recommend products to their friend and readers.

And affiliate marketing is just a way for you to make money from that.

I’ve been learning and testing affiliate marketing strategies on my blog and I have to admit it wasn’t an easy ride.

It was especially the hardest to grasp when I was a brand new blogger and you will likely make a TON of mistakes, but you will learn and grow from those mistakes.

I will tell you that no matter how much you’ve read from a course, nothing will work unless you actually implement what is taught. And most of the times, even after you THINK you’ve correctly implemented what was taught, you’re still going to make mistakes and you won’t realize or catch them until you go through a lot of testing and experimenting with your blog.

Once you’ve understood the basic concepts of affiliate marketing and how it works, your success will come from applying those concepts in real life experience through trial and error based on YOUR audience and traffic – there is no one answer or a magical solution that is a one-size-fits-all.

Your success in affiliate marketing and how much money you make will depend on you and how persistent you are even when something isn’t working out for you – it goes beyond learning the concepts and following a guide from a course instructor.

Affiliate marketing is the process of earning an income simply by promoting a product or service to a targeted audience (e.g. family, friends, readers, etc.). You earn a small commission when the person you’re mentioning the product to purchases it using your special affiliate (or referral) link.

If your readers or followers don’t like what you say or don’t trust you, they will not make a purchase using your affiliate link. So, for affiliate marketing to work, you’ll have to be honest about the product or service you’re promoting.

There are many different affiliate networks or programs you can apply for and join.

Once you are approved for a program, you can start placing your special affiliate links onto your blog post or social media channels. These affiliate links track your readers’ purchases and have a duration from anywhere between 24 hours to as high as 365 days.

Affiliate marketing can become a very lucrative way to make money online but in order to be successful at it, you must make sure that what you’re promoting is what your reader is looking for and is going to help solve their problem.

Affiliate marketing may sound easy in theory but it’s not when it comes to implementing the actual strategies. If you are a newbie who has absolutely NO experience in affiliate marketing, then I highly recommend investing in an affiliate marketing course like the one I took to learn how to monetize using affiliate marketing strategies.

Again, I encourage you to start a blog if you want to learn how to make money with affiliate marketing because it’s an effective way to communicate and promote the products you love to your readers

As you can see, affiliate marketing is not as complicated as it might seem at first.

It’s quite easy to get started. The hard part is actually making money.

But if you implement the tips and strategies I shared above you’ll make your first affiliate sale in no time.

And from there, things will get easier.

But the number one thing you should NEVER forget about is your readers. Focus on creating content that will help them.

If you don’t create content that will provide value and help your readers (or followers) you won’t be successful in affiliate marketing.
