I started selling on eBay mostly for fun when I was feeling the need to organize my closet. I didn’t really have a strategy in mind and just listed a few things here and there until one day when I was preparing for a big move and suddenly found myself with A LOT of things to potentially sell on eBay. At this point in time, I hadn’t really educated myself on eBay selling tips but to my surprise, once I actually got around to consistently listing the items, things WERE SELLING!!
I soon became fascinated with eBay and the potential of this amazing platform. I started doing a bunch of research and there are literally all kinds of tips and tricks out there. It can be overwhelming especially for a beginner like myself. I’ve been selling on eBay consistently with a bit of a strategy for about a year now and am doing anywhere $400-$1,000 a month. It really varies based on my level of effort each month too. Lazy effort = Lazy results.
This may not sound like a lot to you but having that extra money in the bank every month is quite rewarding and it can only go up from here! 🙂
I tried many different things with lots of trial and error and so without further ado, I present to you……..
The Top 5 eBay Selling Tips
…..That worked for me, obviously! 😉 ….. I am not claiming to be an expert on any of this but I figured if these worked for me, then they could likely work well for someone else! Sharing is caring!
1. Get the eBay App
Go to your app store right now and download the eBay app. Download it and USE it because it makes your life one thousand times easier! You can list items via the eBay app from your phone while you lay in bed or watch TV! Just make sure you have pictures of the items saved to your phone and you can list them whenever using the app. You can also snap pictures and list ’em right then and there. I can have an item photographed, described and listed in 60 seconds all while jamming to my favorite songs. List one item a minute? Talk about a power hour!
2. Be Consistent
eBay and eBay sellers love consistency aka they love when you are listing new items for sale on a consistent basis! I have watched my activity on my site and my sales go up and down many times. When do they go up? When I am listing regularly! When do they go down? When I am missing days! I have never proven this but I have a theory that eBay shows your listings more in search results when you are active and consistently listing. Either that or perhaps you just show up in search results more because you actually have listings! Either way, consistency is KEY!
Set a goal that is reasonable for your schedule. It could be “list 10 items every single day” or “list 10 items every week” or “list 200 items on Fridays” – whatever your goal might be, set the goal and then STICK TO IT. You’ll be amazed.
3. Free Listings
Use your free listings! eBay gives you a certain amount of free listings every month and they will track these listings for you so you know exactly how many you have left. Sometimes they give 200+ free listings a month which this is absolutely perfect for a beginner because 1. That’s a lot of listings and 2. It doesn’t cost anything.
These listings don’t carry over to the next month so it’s use ’em or lose ’em. Make sure you use them and get your stuff LISTED and SOLD!
Free Listings. Need I say more?
4. Create an eBay Store
eBay gives you the option to create your own store where you can list all of your “stuff” together in one location. There is a charge associated with creating a store but there are 5 different options and the Starter package is only $4.95 a month. Store subscribers get more free listings, discounts on listing fees, access to seller reports, and more! You can also brand and promote your store, adding color or pictures to your storefront.
Another benefit is you’ll have a unique link to your store that you can then promote on your social channels.
Plus, you’ll become all official and what not and can tell all of your friends that you have an online store – who doesn’t want to be able to say that?!

5. Ship Immediately
I have found that eBay customers are very excited to get their purchases and they will be looking for them pretty much as soon as they’ve completed paying. This is great, however, it is important to make sure you can live up to the shipping expectations you’ve set! Keeping customers happy is your number one priority because you don’t want a return, or even worse, negative feedback.
Make sure you keep this in mind when you are listing your items because you don’t want to have a listing end on a Saturday 10 days from now when you are honeymooning on the beach! Make sure your listings end when you are available to get your goods shipped out!
