The Best Flooring Choices Your Home

by

Hello and welcome back for another post in my Home Improvement and DIY series. My husband and I recently restored the original hex tile floor in our 1921 powder room for the One Room Challenge. I am loving the floor! Now I am trying to decide what type of flooring to use in the mudroom just outside of the powder room. I have been looking on Pinterest for inspiration so I thought I’d share a quick round up post of the top flooring choices for your home in case you haver been looking for ideas too. *This post contains affiliate links.

Wood Flooring

Hardwood is one of the most popular flooring styles. Hardwood floors are timeless! Hardwood flooring creates a warmth within the home. Each type of wood has unique look, depending on the age of the wood, as well as the grain.

There are many floor options for you, but you could choose to design your own as long as you have a reputable supplier. The hardwood floor installation itself is challenging, so you may want to get some professional help if you aren’t a DIY expert.

If you don’t have original hardwood floor, you could simply strip back whatever you have down to the floorboards. This is a great choice for a bonus room or laundry room. Just be sure to seal the wood with a water based sealer.

Concrete Flooring
If you have a modern kitchen or basement bonus room, concrete is a perfect choice. The great thing about concrete is that it’s very durable. It lends itself well to kitchens with big families and pets, as it can withstand the amount of foot traffic. The one big issue with concrete flooring is that it gets cold quite easily. You can offset this by adding floor heating underneath or a cozy area rug, making those early morning coffees in the kitchen more bearable.

Bamboo Flooring

If you prefer green living and eco-friendly products, bamboo is a great sustainable flooring option. Be sure to choose a trusted brand with the longest available warranty. The longer the warranty, the higher the quality of the bamboo. Some bamboo flooring does dent easily, so bamboo is best used in less busy homes.

Tile

Tile flooring is definitely one of the most popular choices for homes as it stands the test of time. Tile has been used in homes for centuries as it is both durable and beautiful.

Travertine tile has an old world vibe that is beautiful for traditional and French Country homes.

Brick Paver Floors~ Sincerely Marie Designs

My dream of having a brick kitchen floor is going to be coming true soon! I recently scored enough brick pavers on closeout clearance at Lowes to do our entire kitchen for 75% off. Hopefully by spring we will have a new brick (paver) floor in the kitchen!

Laminate Wood Flooring

Probably the best thing about laminate flooring is that it is incredibly cheap when compared to many other kinds of flooring. If you are on a strict budget, you might want to consider laminate for some parts of your home. It is most often used in kitchens as it is the kind of flooring that is very easy to clean.

This budget friendly option is definitely one to consider if you need a quick fix for an area in your home. Laminate flooring comes in many different options, so you can easily find a style suitable to your home decor, from vintage style to contemporary. One of the downsides is that it’s not as desirable as real wood, and so that is something to consider if you plan on selling it.

Vinyl

If you are looking for a flooring choice that requires practically no maintenance, then vinyl  is the way to go. It is one of the least expensive flooring options and there are many designs today that look high end. We have loved our groutable vinyl floor tile in our entry way. It looks very similar to real tile and cleans very easily.

The Crazy Craft Lady

There are so many amazing peel and stick vinyl floor decals these day that will give your kitchen, bath or foyer a modern, updated look in no time without breaking the bank.
